I did searches and read up but I want to know if anybody has found any in northern Illinois? Any help will be appricated! Thanx!

If youi searched a litrtle harder than you would hav3e found the Mapping the Mycelial Netwoork which lists shrooms for most ststes in the USA as well as Canadian Provinces.

I know all about the maps and did a good search but you cant beat someones personal experience. You can read all the information in the world but I wanted to hear it right from someone who has found them before. But deffinetly thanx for the info!

i was just wondering the same thing-- i found that supposedly only the

Panaeolus subbalteatus

Found from spring to autumn grouped or clustered often in rings up to
two feet in diameter on open ground, freshly manured lawns, straw piles,
all types of compost, dung piles, and roadsides in Ontario and throughout
the USA (especially in Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Michigan,
Washington, and Oregon). Optimum growth on MEA is at 86 degrees F.
It occasionally occurs as a weed mushroom in commercial mushroom houses.

grow here....

to the vetran hunters-- i found some in the chicago land area that look like the ones in the pictures.... only the stalks are much shorter. can i assume this means they arent the correct ones?

im going on a walk tomorrow to take pics-- i found some morels i know, and some huge ones growing out of stumps, and ill post pics.

Don't take my work for it but i believe that the Pluteus Salicinus also grows here on dead woods...It is also referred to as the "Illinois Backwoods Mushroom"
