cakes too dry in jar?
    #15751735 - 02/02/12 01:26 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I have some cakes still colonizing in the jars I have the jars upside down so there is space between the cake and the glass and I noticed the mycelium has reached to a small spot of water on the inside of the jar to get the water. Would this indicate that the substrate is too dry? The cakes have been basically 100% colonized on the outside for a few days but there are a few small spots the mycelium seems a little thin so I didnt want to take them out yet but growth seems to have slowed so my thought is maybe the substrate is dried out. Any thoughts on this from cultivators that have similar experience would be appreciated.

are the cakes bluing at all?  if they have been fully colonized for a few days, then you shouldn't be too worried... esp. if they aren't bluing at all.  Condensation on the inside of the jar usually means they aren't dry.  I would wait a couple more days and then birth and give them a 12 hour or so dunk and they should be good to go.

no bluing, just bright pretty white. These jars are the Golden teacher strain. I noticed the mycelium was much thicker and ropier than my B+ and took a littler longer to colonize. I have already put my B+ in the terrarium a couple days ago and they seemed light like there wasnt much water left in the cake so I thought maybe the ones in the jar were getting too dried out but there is still signs of moisture in the jars so I shouldnt worry.

Thanks for the input
