Odd flush on second cake (pics)
    #15751668 - 02/02/12 01:09 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

First of all, swim would like to thank the shroomery for all of the information on growing. Swim has yet to need to ask a question due to all of the information already available. Swim has searched but cannot seem to find anyone's grows that looks like his and is having second thoughts before consuming them. Swim is using the pftek for simple minds technique  with z-strain, but his fruits on the first cake to be ready for harvest are short, discolored, and cracked. Swim has linked to a few images asking for reassurance as to whether they will be safe to consume if harvested immediately.

Swim decided to proceed with the harvest. Now he may be regretting it. He twisted and pulled carefully but this resulted:

Most were very soggy and easily ripped. Turned very blue rapidly after pressure. Any thoughts?

I guess his first grow could have been worse.

they're safe to eat, just make tea.

It looks like you might have misted too much on the fruits themselves... make sure to fan a lot more, dunk the cake, then re-introduce to fruiting

the cakes look like they are right on the perlite. if that's the case you need to put foil under them or something.

a little light on the fanning. You have to fan them until they aredry

Are you saying that the cakes should be finely misted directly, but should just be fanned significantly more afterwards?

I think what you want to do is mist the whole tub, aka point mister so mist 'falls' into the tub, instead of pointing the mister at the cakes them selves.  And yea, fan more afterwards.

and get some foil under the cakes as previously mentioned.

Either way works really for misting, it's just you want the water to evap off the fruit bodies to keep them from getting soggy or pins from aborting.

so yeas, FAN MUCH MORE if your misting  alot

I don't have anything to add on the original question. But damn, Man! Those are some hi res photos. What are you taking those shots with? I can damn near see the individual spores on those pics.  :jawdrop:
