black swirls on caps and stems ...spores?

So i got a mushroom or 2 in my FC with a black swirl on the caps. It starts dead in the middle and swirls out. Also, there's a black area on the stem. Could be super dark blue. I'm pretty sure I just waited too long to harvest and they've just dropped their spores, but how would it get on top like that? And in such a uniform pattern? Also, when you harvest late, do you lose potency? I'll post pics when the new server is up (they look kinda cool)

by definition, yes, potency does go down. But that does not mean there is actually a lower amount of active compounds. Once the veil tears and the mushroom prepares to sporulate, the production of active compounds is slowly reduced to a halt. By the time the mushroom is actually producing and dropping spores, it is no longer producing any more actives. But the actives that were there in the first place are still there, but distributed over a larger mass of mushroom matter. A fully developed mushroom will actually have a slightly larger quantity of actives, but it is usually more practical to harvest just before the veil tears because that is when the actives are most highly concentrated into the smallest possible mass of mushroom tissue. I harvest when the veil tears because I absolutly hate the taste, so the less I need to eat, the better lol
