Progress so far on first grow w/?'s & pics.

Hello everyone. So it has been exactly 5 days since my inoculation of BRF cakes with GT spores. I currently am incubating around 76-77*f, which seems to be working well. Pretty fast colonization for 5 days. Most of the jars are around the 20% colonized right now. Anyways, I had a couple of questions regarding my area I can work with. Currently in the closet. The grow light was just on for the purpose of taking the pictures. My friend told me he never drilled holes in his container and still grew. I was just wondering since I am doing this in a closet, would it be better to just drill no holes and leave the door open, and the lid halfway on, then mist every so often? There is enough ambient light throughout the day that comes in through my window, but the light was for if I needed to give it light at night, but then I'd have to shut my closet door, and there wouldn't be that much FAE, if any at all.

Here are some pics, with the growth, my setup and the amount of space I am working with.

PS-- I am capable if taking them out of the closet if need be into my room, just was concerned about people coming and going inside my room. I think it would be a better choice.

Any replies would be great.

Ehh, pictures are unable to upload right now. Maintenance must be doing something. I'll get them up ASAP.

Optimally you'll want to drill 1/4" holes every two inches on ALL SIX sides and fill with about 4" of perlite. That will cut down on the amount of fanning you'll have to do to get a decent flush from your cakes.

You could NOT make holes but you'll definitely see better reults WITH holes

My best advice would be to cut no corners, or as few as possible. You want to have your fruiting chamber a couple feet off the ground as thats were most contaminates like to "chill". You do not need to incubate unless you have really cold temps (low sixties or lower) room temp is just fine. I colonize mine on a shelf, also allowing ambient light to reach them as it has been proven that light is beneficial to mycelium at all stages of growth. The reason you do not want to incubate in an enclosed chamber is mycelium needs GE (gas exchange) and them jars are not getting enough closed up in a container. Otherwise you sound like your on the right track! Goodluck

Is it still okay to grow them in my closet? Even with the holes on all six sides, will there be enough FAE in there as long as I keep my door open?

I understand the mycelium part. I keep the lid off, I just have em in there because its in my closet.

Yep. You want to put bricks or something under each corner to allow air to flow underneath the FC so it can flow through the perlite. Maybe put a fan in your room on low to stir up air slightly. If your FC is in the closet with the door open, even if the fan isn't facing the closet, it'll be enough FAE.

You'll still want to manually fan the FC several times a day.

Hey thanks!

Btw, your sig with Paris/Lohan is hilarious.

I guess I'll just leave my door open. I planned on putting a towel down and then set the FC on top of a couple of boxes. I only have about 1ft to work with before it touches my clothes. I hope that will be enough. Might not even need the light if I have enough ambient coming through the window. Maybe I'll just save it for future grows.
