The PF TEK is powerful stuff but it takes some time to learn all the basics and even more to get real used to it. I started with 125 ml substrates and from that went on to 1200 ml homemade growboxes and they put out harvest like 4 individual cakes at once and handle just as easy as one cake and doesnt take more time, care or worry to grow than that. Thats a effective description of how the PF TEK can be used to vastly simplify the process while keeping yields acceptable and the process safe. Instead of 6 individual cakes, 6 individual 1200 ml subs..

Oh damn, nice. I may make several of those tubs...where did you get them?
Also, through rough calculations I figured 4-5 qts of spawn were neccesary. To do that I needed 20 8 oz. jars(200ml) I prepared and soaked the seed last night, and luckily I made a pot full. I had enough seed for 18.5 jars. (1.5 short. ) I plan on buying 1 quart jars, and just working with that. Much easier to inoculate 5 jars then 20.
Strain is Oakridge Subcubensis.

Those tubs are in every way just big PF cakes. One of those subs equals about 6 cakes, but theyre much easier to handle and take care of IMO than single cakes.

Ok you've inspired me to give those a try, makes perfect sense. Besides, I bought way too big of bag of BRF at the health food store that I've been staring at wondering what to do with...

How are you sterilizing those, with alcohol on the tubs and BRF/verm in substrate bags? The tubs are sure cheap enough

You sterilize them just like you would any cake. Put your substrate in the box and prepare it and then put on the lid 3/4 (leave it slightly open, its a snap on so dont snap it all the way around)
Then you pop some office tape over the filter patch to protect it from the steam (the filter gets wet otherwise..). Then sterilize for 90 minutes with steam. Then as you take the box out of the steamer, push down the lid and snap it on fully. Remove the foil, let cool and inoculate just like any other cake:)
If you dont fill it all the way up, which I would rec that you dont there will be plenty of air (oxygen) for your substrate and you can then dunk the entire cake as it is consolidated inside the tub without having to remove it.
If you should encounter oxygen stalling at the late point of colonization you can go outside in the crisp clean air, pop the lid open on one end and let some air inside the box.

After dunking you place the cake like this:
