Gas exchange on a WBR cake > verm/coir

I used a whole brown rice cake as spawn to a 50/50 verm coir substrate. I mixed it all up earlier today and realized that i only put the top back on the tray without any holes or anything.. a while back while i was still researching all of this, i read somewhere that there should be no gas exchange during a bulk colonization, but i cannot find that post anymore, and looking for that post, and reading more threads i came to the conclusion that there needs to be gas exchange for colonization.
Should there BE gas exchange during this colonization period? If so, would me making a small hole in the center and putting some polyfil do the job? By small hole I mean a bit less than the diameter of a pencil (small screw driver)
thank you all

No gas exchange during colonization. You want the CO2 to build up. FAE is only required when trying to fruit.

From what I understand FAE and gas exchange are different as in, gas exchange only being minimal, compared to fae (example, fanning cakes)

How tight is your lid? A small hole with polyfil will work fine. So will a lid that isn't airtight sealed.
You want CO2 to build up but you also want GE.
FAE is what you don't want until fruiting.
GE is allowing the free flow of gasses to enter and exit.
FAE is forcing air to move around to prevent CO2 build up during fruiting and to create evaporation of moisture off the surface of the mycelium.

I've used a few different types of boxes for bulk subs. Even the ones with lids that sealed fairly well (though probably not completely air tight) worked fine for colonization without adding any holes at all.
