I was reading up on casing layers and since i am new to tubs, i dont want to risk screwing things up. My question is that i read a few posts saying you need to dunk you bulk sub after colonization to initiate pinning without using a casing layer. Is this true?
Also, i spawned to 2 tubs and totaly forgot to use trash bag liners. Am i screwed now? i figured since the tubs were not transparent, there was no need according to someone i talked to but with more reading i havent seen anyone not use a trash bag liner.

I dunk my tubs... others dont. I guess it depends on the individuals experience. I use COLD water running through and over it for about an hour, then drain VERY well... then put into the fruiting chamber. This works great for me, but some say NOT to dunk a tub for first flush... to each his own on that I guess.
Its ok to NOT use a trashbag... you will get more side pinning, and the tub will be a bitch to clean out after your grow, but they will grow just fine without the bag.

@ op.
Bags reduce side pinning because they cling to the substrate and don't allow fresh air exchange. Not because they block out the light. You can use a clear tub if you want. If you produce better fruiting conditions on the surface, your mushrooms will grow on the surface.
I don't use bags. I dump out the substrate into my gardens compost, and I either hose it out or rinse it out in the shower and dump it down the toilet. There usually only a little bit that can't be knocked out by hitting the side, and it's never enough for me to worry about clogging the toilet. I also scrub them out with a brush, and wipe them down with iso alc before spawning to bulk.

A quote from one of the nice guys over in the AMU thread.
Quote:

-------------------- The mushroom speaks: '"I am old, older than thought in your species, which is itself fifty times older than your history. Though I have been on earth for ages I am from the stars. My home is no one planet, for many worlds scattered through the shining disc of the galaxy have conditions which allow my spores an opportunity for life... How the hypercommunication mode operates is a secret which will not be lightly given to man. But the means should be obvious: it is the occurrence of psilocybin and psilocin in the biosynthetic pathways of my living body that opens for me and my symbiots the vision screens to many worlds"
