hey guys, i was told not to use a casing layer with cubes so im going with that advice that i got from a bunch of people compared to the ones saying to use one. So my question is, how often should i mist and fan my tub and when i do fan in mist, is it necessary to spray the area down with lysol first. Also, should i run a fan in the room that the tub is in to get better circulation through the polyfill holes. Last question, when i mist the tubs should i just mist the walls of the monotubs or spray a few feet above the tub and allow for the mist to gently hit the walls and the top layer of the substrate itself?

Casing layers work great for me. Mist and fan your tub about 3-5 times a day. Some people do not fan a monotubs at all and get great results. No point in using the fan, just open a window time to time.
I mist the walls about 3 times a day, depending what the hygrometer says. I like to make sure a VERY light mist hits the substrate time to time..maybe once every couple days or so. Either way it wont effect your outcome very much. Just dont over-fan, it is possible. You need some Co2 buildup too. Good luck, if i can do it you can do it. Fact.

You don't need to spray lysol. I would wipe the tub down with isoprople alcohol (which quickly evaporates) and a paper towel before spawning though. You can air-bomb before spawning to bulk. For that I use ClO2 + water, but I know some people use bleach water. Be sure to wait 5-10 minutes after air-bombing though. Even just misting with water will help clean the air. Other than that, you don't need a lot of chemicals. Once the sub is fully colonized, the mycelium should have a decent hold on the substrate and will be able to defend it's self so long as it's moist. Misting the walls will give more surface area for the water to evaporate from, and thus more humidity.
Cubes are hearty enough that they don't require a casing layer in order to fruit unlike some other mushrooms. That doesn't mean that they will not benefit from the extra layer of protection or extra surface humidity. I usually just use a little verm as a casing. Another benefit to using a casing like verm is that you can easily tell when the surface is drying out because the color will change.
You can have a fan blowing in the room, but not directly at the tub. If you have the fan on the ground, it's going to kick up a bunch of contam into the air too. A rule of thumb is to keep everything you can 2+ feet off the ground.
