hey guys, i have 8 half pint brf cakes in my fc and its been almost 10 days and 4 of them don't even have pins on them. I know it can take awhile but the thing that worries me is that the other 4 are pinning and growing fruits like crazy so im not sure what the issue is here? Does anybody know what this problem might be why half my cakes are fruiting and the other half arent even pinning yet?

Are they forming knots on the surface? Here's a picture bellow. If you have this, then pins are sure to soon follow.

You could try giving 5-10 minutes of direct sunlight. I've heard that can help get them pinning.

Did you dunk your cakes when you birthed them?? Rehydrating them upon birth is definitely the way to go....

If 1 cake pins in the exact same conditions as the others, they WILL soon follow. Fear not.

alright guys thanks so much and ya i dunked and rolled the whole bit, my hygrometer is a piece of shit even though i paid over 20 bucks for it. Its a digi and i cant get anyone to suggest a certain brand and model hygrometer that is relatively cheap and good. Can anybody tell me whats a good cheap hygrometer to get cause i cant find aybody to answer that question.? Also, if i do the wet towel test and my hygrometer is not at 100 percent humidity, do i just calculate the difference of whatever it is off by and then add that to 100 percent humidity?

If you set up a shotgun fruiting chamber you won't even have to worry about humidity. The design will keep the humidity high as long as the perlite is wet not to mention it provides constant air exchange to the point where fanning isn't even really necessary.

I've heard a lot of people complain about the digital hydrometers on here.
My advice to you would be to go try and old school gauged one.
And don't worry about your cakes man! Sounds like you did everything pretty textbook, they will follow

I always wait until the cakes are starting to pin a little bit in the jar before birthing. It's been a sure fire way to know that the cakes are done consolidating and has worked wonders for me. Whenever I birth my cakes, I'll see more pins developing within a day or two.

Once you have your methods down a hygrometer is unnecessary
