Rust in jars?
    #15748152 - 02/01/12 05:04 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I've read a few posts saying it could be rust, contaminates, or waste. Any ideas? Two of my five jars don't have it. Thanks!

In this third one it's a tiny brown dot.

Those pictures lack focus, but it looks like rust to me.
You're fine, a little bit of rust has never ruined my jars.

pro-tip: use the "macro" function on your camera when taking close-up pictures.

If it's liquid and not near the lid, then it's probably metabolites. Probably just bacteria. The only downside is a slower colonization time. Yields/potency are not affected.

Mushrooms are a "heavy metal magnet." They will soak up any rust (oxidized iron), meaning that when you eat them you'll get a little extra iron in your diet. If you don't like it, you can get some plastic lids.
