Making an LC from the coir/verm 'juice'
    #15745518 - 02/01/12 12:38 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

i feel kinda dumb asking but I believe that pollution is simply resources man hasn't yet found a way to refine into a product.  I say this to give you a basis for my thinking on the following question:

My buddy is pasteurizing some coir/verm in a pillowcase in a pot of water on the stove kept at about 155F.  From reading on here there was some controversy about leaching nutrients with this method.

Can he just strain this water of sediment, PC in jars, noc and then use as an LC?  Has this been done previously?

While I'm on this, my pal here also has a 4% honey LC that has about 2 weeks of existence under its belt with no visible progress....safe to say it's bunk at this point?

Thanks!

I would say the LC is bunk, start over. As for the coir, I'm interested as well!

I would say, experiment for the sake of science. I believe it will work. Just use sterile techniques so you get more accurate results.

And a side note: Liquid cultures are not the best way to preserve a strain or even to make multiple syringes from a small amount of spores. My favorite way, is to make a regular grain jar, inoculate it, wait til it fully colonizes, use most (9/10) of the jar as a spawn, leaving 1/10 of the colonized grain to use as a mycellium culture. You can simply leave it in your fridge and when you are ready to inoculate new jars, you simply fill a syringe with water, inject that water into the jar, shake it around a bit, then suck the water back into your syringe. Same idea as a liquid culture, yet much more simple. RogerRabbit has endorsed this method even.

Yeah, i've read about a tek quite similar to that before, i like the idea because it can be done with a full jar and te jar can just be left to recolonize (when done with sterility in mind of course).
