Vermiculite Sterility for Dunking and Rolling

So I am about to birth my cakes and have searched the forums to find information about vermiculite sterility during the rolling process. I am going to be using left over Sta-Green vermiculite that I used for the substrate. The problem is I am not sure if I should go ahead and nuke it. The bag was opened 3 weeks ago for substrate preparation and closed with rubber bands. I stored it in a cupboard. Should I sterilize it or no?

Can't hurt. I bake at 400* for 30 mins then let it cool before rolling.
Not sure you wanna use the microwave (I assume that's what you mean by 'nuke it'). You need water for a microwave to work. And you need the verm to be dry to stick to your cakes. Use the oven.

Vermiculite feeds mycelium, both mold and mushroom mycelium, so it should be baked in an oven before use to ensure it's free of spores. Once used, the live mycelium will take hold before any stray spores have a chance to germinate, but remember for best results to always give it a good heat treatment first. RR

I would not use a microwave. Vermiculite is suppose to be sterile. It never hurts to be extra safe. I used a toaster oven @ 350 for 30min. If it did have some bad mold spores on it, I would think your mycelium would be able to destroy it. I would think you could have problems if it was really contaminated.
I think in the Let's grow mushrooms video they mentioned about baking the Verm.
FYI, The video is awesome!! I'm also a newbie and the video was extremely informative and helpful.

I've never sterilized my verm and have never seen any bad results using it for rolling the cake.
Using in a substrate, that's a different story.
