Infinitys Minute said: I think it's awesome you have your own beliefs on this matter... It's good to see someone think for themselves instead of just accepting the norm.
However not everyone believe their mycelium is sentient... and they (we I should say) are entitles to our opinion on the matter as much as you are. You find it cruel he stabs his myc with needles... I find it cruel that people slit the throats of healthy animals and hang them by the ankles until they bleed dry. The world is a cruel place and it takes all kinds if you want the full picture.
Not being a dick here, but yes I would get more water into my circulation from a needle in the neck with 60cc water than from sitting in 60cc of water??? Also humans and mushrooms are far from the same. If they were, the mycelium would not be the equivalent of the human neck... that's just a strange comparison to make
How can a 'nutrient spike' encourage fruiting? More importantly why are you trying to encourage an UNCOLONISED sub to fruit???
If you think the mycelial network is sentient, what of the fruits? Is it an ethical issue in your opinion to pick them? if not, why? (Genuine curiosity). I would assume that prematurely ripping a shroom off the sub would be more harmful than a tiiiiiny hole, no? Also I don't think the myc would enjoy drying out if it were sentient. I think it would be like "AAAAHHH FUCK I'M DYING, AAAAAHHHH!!!" and thank you for the H2O booster
What I'm doing a bad job of saying is, believe what you want, talk about it if you want, but don't tell anyone their beliefs are wrong... That's just ignorant.
There is a huge difference between buthering an animal to feed my specifies, and a bad mycology practice. We don't twist and pull our fruits when harvesting, because of the crater it leaves. It's the equivalent to an open wound on our own skin. Go to your pf cake rip a chunk out , watch it die and get contamed, than Youll realizes its alive, and does not enjoy the puncture wound.
Correct captain crunch, but if you drank the water like your functionally designed to you'd be 10x better off than me jacking you in the neck....... both sides, use both sides of brain
The nutrient spike would be something that the myc leeches from an alien object, installed prior to colonization, this all made up in my head currently, although is already in use elsewear............. moving on
Oh wait there you posted it.... your behind on your harvesting, read up on a knife
In the real world adults tell each other their beliefs are wrong all the time, when children mature they learn to recognize they're not right all the time, and use that knowledge to advance.

If myc was sentient I would day it would not enjoy being spat on at all either.
If they do not like being prodded at with a needle I can't imagine they enjoy having their fruits harvested, whether by ripping or by knife. Does lettuce also have feelings? Is it unethical to rip a leaf off that lettuce and eat it? Should I only eat animals then, seeing as they apparently do not have feelings?
"In the real world adults tell each other their beliefs are wrong all the time, when children mature they learn to recognize they're not right all the time, and use that knowledge to advance." I loved it when you said that. When you mature, realise you are wrong and use that knowledge to advance, let me know You are the one claiming to know better than the experts what is and is not bad mycology practice.
Do you per chance bury spent cakes/substrate? I can't imagine someone who feels the way you do about myc forcing it to fruit until it dies and throwing it in the bin...
