If you want to step up to grains, you need a pressure cooker, and you might want quart jars. Once you have one.. birdseed is a good substrate, as is rye.

I can get tons of it(and shit) for free...but I'm trying too stay away from shit if I can...something about cooking up shit in my kitchen don't sit right with me

like shroomism asid, if you want to move onto grains, you will need a pc. millet is a great starter because it isnt as contam prone as is rye.

the cow shit you want should be thoroughly dry, and shouldnt smell even while cooking... also, the type of straw you should aquire is 'wheat straw' straw produces some big ass fruits...try combining coco-fiber as a casing layer... good luck.

Use worm castings. It basically is shit, but it doesn't smell. It seems just like a real dark rich soil. Try using popcorn as a grain. It's real easy to use.

straw=big fruits w/only one flush. and if you can get it for free, then hopefully its a field of cows where you can go look for what you want. you want aged cow dung. the test to do when looking around is everything white is aged (supposedly the white is bacteria that supposedly is the stuff you want to keep when pasteurizing. the next test to do when you find something white is to pick it up (hopefully gloved hands) and give it a big sniff. amazingly enough, aged shit smells GREAT, and you wont have to worry about it in your kitchen-afoaf has done the same thing, though he recommends an open window, hehe.\
>>what's a good recipe for a casing layer? >defenitely verm and coco is the best one to use-lotsa water retention and airy also.
>>Use worm castings. It basically is shit, but it doesn't smell. It seems just like a >real dark rich soil. aged shit doesnt smell bad either, looks like dark rich soil, and smells like nice fertilized earth after a rain. hehehe Jake H
