homemade desiccant packet.... will it work?

So ive got about an ounce of dried fruits in a ziplock bag with a homemade desiccant pack that I made out of a coffee filter filled with desiccant and taped together. Do you guys think the packet i made will be sufficient? I was just going to go to a shoe store and ask somebody if I could have a couple packets.

go to the dollar general and buy a $3 DampRid container... they work so fucking well. Wrong section by the way.

oh if the fruits are already dry.. then your desiccant should work to just keep them dry and preserved.

Oh my bad, where should I have posted this? And yes I have fan dried them on a paper towel first andthen put them in the bag with the packet, with the purpose of the packet being to preserve the shrooms and draw out any last remaining moisture from them.

Question though: so I had them dried on the paper towel till they were cracker crisp but after they have been in the bag the caps are "squishy" again. Is this normal or do I need to dry them again or do something else?

Them getting soft again is normal. That is why people use a desicant pack.

Your pack should work if it is silica (silica gel), or calcium sulfate(dryerite/gypsum).

The Damprid (calcium chloride) is not OK in a coffee filter, because it will continue absorbing moisture and turn into a liquid, contaminating the fruits of your labor with calcium chloride.

Im not exactly sure what material of desiccant I used but it was the shit from micheals craft store for drying out flowers, it just looks like white sand.

That would be most likely silica gel.

Would not have used tape

Really important to keep the chemical from getting on the mushrooms
