Clear totes are fine... Dandy, in fact I have primarily used clear totes and have a strong preference for them... I do not use anything to negate ambient light from reaching the mycelium... It is not necessary...
Side-pinning is primarily triggered by the evaporative, yet highly humid, micro-climate conditions associated with its location between the tote wall and shrinking substrate... Any mild ambient light would be a far and distant secondary trigger...
Furthermore; a clear tote allows for intimate observation of the progress and health of the mycelium... An outbreak of trichoderma can be observed (in many cases) long before sporulation (at the surface) and the tote removed from the grow area; when using a clear tote.

NOTE: Please excuse my brevity, as it is a bitch 'n' a half and slow as hell to type on this here phone

I use straight oven baked verm, about a 1/16 inch layer after the tub has fully consolidated. Cover with verm, mist the livin' hell outta it and put to fruit.
I just threw my trays in the FC. Is this really a good idea? I've seen many posts saying coir is self-casing and doesn't need any. But, I've just set them in today. If it's going to help, I can add some verm to the tops as a casing layer. I was just told coir was "self casing" and didn't need it.
