Hello , I have a clear 56 quart tote with 3-1/4" holes on two sides. There is about 3-4 inches of perlite in it,with about 1 inch of water. The temp. range is 72 to 78 degrees and the humidity level will not rise above 50%. The perlite and water has been in the tote for about 48 hours. I tried a heating pad and there was really no change. Im lost and not really sure what to do, Im running out of time. Please help.

try the cultivation forum. id get rid of the inch of water. thats making your perlite below the water line useless as how can it evaporate water when its under water. also make a proper shotgun fruiting chamber. 1/4 inch holes 2 inches apart on all six sides, try adding a couple more inches of wet perlite.

I have about 3 inches of perlite and about a inch of water at the bottom of the tote, which puts the water level about 2 inches below the top of the perlite. I will drain some out and see if that helps. Thanks for the information on the holes.

Water collecting in the sub is a possible contam risk and if it gets to your cakes, it could waterlog them.
Perlite retains water within the nooks and crevices of it's surface. To dehydrate, just mist the perlite. Avoid misting cakes directly.

Yes.
If you have an inch of water at the bottom of your tub, then your tub/FC is not going to work.
Look up "SGFC" here. 1/4" holes every 2" on all six sides.
You need air to flow up through the perlite.
Good luck,

Ok ... I got my humidity up to 90 - 95 %... Thankyou . I have read that some people dunk the cakes for 24 hours before putting them into the fruiting chamber for the first time,or it this fir after the first harvest ? I put my cakes into the fruiting chamber 2 days ago, can they still be taken out and dunked ? the seem to already have some growth to them. What to do ?

I'm assuming you haven't rolled your cakes in vermiculite?
in that case it's probably fine to dunk your cake. have a search around for Dunk & roll, and watch the "lets grow Mushrooms" videos for advice. but essentially, dunk in water for 24 hours with something on top keeping the cake submerged (it'll float) give it a wash, then roll in med/ fine verm. let it sit for 30 mins or so, then mist and fan. do this 3 or 4 times to get the verm well soaked
I hope it's ok after 2 days... anyone think it's too late? are the growths pins? if so, the rolling in verm might damage them. otherwise I think you're good

Those cakes where birthed for 1 month to the day. They sat in the fruiting chamber for about 2 days. Now , I am going to take them out and dunk and roll them. Then return them to te fruiting chamber.I hope this works.........It's Killing me.

looking good. yeah give it a good wash and get the dry verm vermiculite off the bottom of that, soak it, then cover in verm etc. pop it on a piece of tin foil or your jar lid, and whack it in the fruiting chamber (SGFC's are good

I was thinking of hooking a fish tank pump up and pump a small amount of air into the fruiting chambers, for some fresh air. I was wondering if this a good idea or not ? Has anybody out there tried this before ?

Yeah, using an airpump is actually old tek. The best way is to build the Shotgun Fruiting chamber like everyone else suggested. I honestly do not tink you can get enough FAE with an airpump, even leaving it running 24/7

Cakes have been in for about five days and I cant get the humidity above 85%. I got the temperature at a stable 78 degrees. Drilled holes on all sides of the chamber. There hasn't been a whole lot of change in the cakes, A little but not much. Hope I got this right. Anyone know a way to boost the humidity ? Anyone know when I should really be able to tell if its working correctly ?
