Paneolus Question
    #15725944 - 01/27/12 05:04 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Hello all,

We have all read that Pans like thinner subs.

I have a filter patch bag of an hpoo+verm+coffee+bran+gypsum
substrate consolidating with Pan Cyan Hawaiian that I will
need to fruit soon.

I have broken up such a sub and laid the results into
trays for fruiting, and so I know that this can work.

...but I want to consider fruiting it in the sack, to
reduce the chances of contamination.

(that was Tampa anyway)

So, I wanted to ask the forum just how important is this requirement?

Will a 4-6" sub of Pans fruit decently?

What is the optimal sub depth?

(I expect so, but wanted to poll the team)

Take care,

JD

Substrate depth was about 3":
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13275189#13275189
And in this bag +4":
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/13301383#13301383

So no, it isn't a requirement.
2" is ideal but 4-6" will work just fine too.
Also, it's spelled PanAeolus...:rofldrunk:
I know you've had hard time getting a clean spawn of this species,
so I'm really crossing my fingers for you to fruit it at last!
:goodluck:

Thanks SS!

Ah yes, the old greek ae combo....it is pronounced like
the long e, but my bad.  :0)

I have had much better luck with my current challenges
(Tampa, Jalisco, and Pans) since I got better genetics.
(at least one from you, and the Jalisco from Primal, I think)

I have four perfectly clean Jalisco blocks in SGFCs and
the GH and six consolidating that I am not going to touch
unless they fruit in-bago or I get some dang prints from
the first four!

I have about 10 various Tampa tubs about as well.

I will not be denied!  :0)

Take care, and thanks for the time bro.

JD

In my experience, broken up subs will fruit fairly easy as long as they recover quick enough. If it gets just a little too dry, or a sudden high temperature change happens, its often wasted.

On the other hand, Ive had subs that has gone dormant for weeks, then only to start a fruiting frenzy when the mold attacks. The long consolidation makes them absurdly potent, and yes thats compared to the wild ones I got the print from in the first place . Happens more often with the pans I got in Indonesia.

Good luck!

Thank you for taking the time.

I have 26 very clean PF-Tek cakes of Pan Cyan Hawaiian
as well, and will be trying the break up and case approach
with some of those.

I will just case my block for this first pass.

Take care,

JD
