It's nutritious. I use it in LC all the time. For our purposes, it's all the same- bread yeast, brewer's yeast, nutritional yeast.
Edit - Here is my LC recipe.

protein, B vitamins, what's not to like? People eat yeast for the same reasons.

Yeast it typically about 40% protein and 30% carbs and the rest various other usable nutrients fats, ions etc etc. You can use other stuff light malt extract (LME), peptone and a mixture of the above to make a liquid media or nutrient agar.

so the whole dead or alive thing
it should be dead right? so it doesnt compete with myc??
ive got:
lme sugar in the raw packets(demerara sugar) karo honey yeast

good yeast?
what do i do with it toss it in the coffee filter with everything else???
not using the karo and only a tad bit of honey mainly just a packet of sugar in the raw per quart jar of LC i wanna make (600ml) and a teaspoon of lme for 3 jars
so yea yeast......what do i do with it

you can use yeast or not its optional, and it doesn't really matter what kind(nutritional yeast is cheaper)because even if it is alive it will be killed when you sterilize the LC/agar. there are alot of LC recipes if you look up at the top of the page for them. It seems like you are trying to complicate things, try to keep it simple. I make my LCs with just 15g of corn sugar and 15g of malt extract per 1L.

nope not trying to complicate things at all
I'm trying to find what works for me and what i like best
so far Ive tried about 6 different recipes to see what i like the look of and growth characteristics of each recipe and also different methods of making the lc
so far i like lme tsp for 3 jars ( up to 600 ml line about) sugar in the raw packet per jar so 3 packets + a dab of honey(that's precise) mine has a little pour spout and i give it like a mississippi's worth of honey into the coffee pot not into the filter
add all that to a coffee filter in a coffee maker except the honey add water to coffee maker that you measured in yer jars and press the on button
then i run it through a few more coffee filters placed in the neck of mah quart jars add a stir bar pressure cook and voila a nice lc gets innocced and stuck on mah four plate stirrer
wanted to see if i would like lme + sugar in the raw + dab honey + yeast better or if maybe the mycelium will grow faster and more prolifically
i have two more small ideas to test also
one being a tiny bit of a multivitamin ground and added to the coffee filter
and the other is a caffeine pill just a little crushed and added to the coffee filter
maybe im crazy
maybe someones done it
i really don't care
the point is im going to try it for myself to see with my own eyes done by my own hand
ive got time ive got money ive got stuff ive got space
so....."why not?" is the question, more so than "why?"

I love experimenting too, but there might be one problem with the yeast and that is that it might make the LC cloudy making it harder to see contams. you could try finding some liquid yeast extract and see it that works too. just an idea..let us know how it works

You can't see contams in LC. You can't tell much of anything by looking at LC.

Hi Doc_t
if you can not see contams in LC how do you check it ?? inject some inside a bottle of grain ??

I have read that sugar is not good (sucrose- complex sugar, hard to break down).
Dextrose (glucose) is a simple sugar and more readily used by the mycelium.
Yeast has B vitaminss and amino acids and peptides
Molasses has sugars, vitamins and minerals
I am experimenting with molasses and yeast extract as additional nutrients for my LC's

You can also test you LC for contaminates on agar? Noccing up grain isn't the only way. You noc agar and if the agar comes out good, THEN you noc your grains.
