hey everyone i have a few tubs going now. the first is z strain and it was put into the tub 14 days ago. I just checked it and its about 60% colonized. Im not sure whats wrong.4 Holes on the sides are taped and 2 holes are packed tightly with polyfil. the lids arent sealed tightly, but the have the flip latch handles, there 64qt tubs, wrapped in a garbage bag. Let me know if anyone has any sugestions or if its ok to let it keep going. thanks everyone!!

I had fast colonization when using tight polyfil in all holes, no tape. Did not use garbage bag to cover but did use saran wrap over lid on tub.

60% is ok ... there are alot of factors that effect in colonizing speed which the most important one is Temp.
i have a current project and im at 40% with less than 4 days in the job. why ? coz the past 3 days Socal got HOT ! so my room was 80 in day and 73ish at night !

Yeah - look up colonization temps for your type of shroomies. Try to match that while they are colonizing in tubs or jars.

I would think your spawn to bulk sub ratio would be the most significant factor under normal conditions. If your water content is too high that can really slow things down too.

for your next grow use more spawn. it has good benefits :
1- Faster colonizing tub 2- bigger flushes

When I colonize bulk,I drape towels over it. Allows co2 to escape faster. When I used garbage bags, I would have to open the bag every 3-4 days and "fluff" the bag to allow gas to escape and air to enter. I also use micro pore tape to cover the holes and then switch to poly fill when I birth. Sometimes I use polyfil thru out the whole process. Up ur spawn ratio next time. More spawn=faster colonization. I usually colonize around the low 80s.

That's what I use (well, between 1:2 and 1:3) and my tubs are the same as well. Lower holes taped and upper holes are stuffed tightly with polyfill just like yours. My tubs however are usually fully colonized by day 10. As I said before, get rid of the trashbag as it's completely unnecessary.

Slow colonization can be a few things.
Too hot, too cold, too wet, bacteria.
If its not too hot or too cold, it could have been too wet.
Otherwise wait for it to colonize.

I have been doing some searching and found something interesting. After I mixed the spawn with the sub, I put a thin layer of sub over as a covering layer so no wbs was exposed. What I read was that it is old news, and that the thin top layer sometimes wont colonize 100 percent.
So I went to the tubs and looked through them with a white led flashlight (i find its better than a yellow bulb to look in the tubs). When I looked I saw under the top layer I can see myc, almost a thick coating. And some places its knotting, but I see no pins. So could this be true?

More pins when you DON'T cover your top layer with sub.
Here take a look at this :
In these Pictures (which i took today the 29th) is my tub that wasnt covered with a layer of Sub.
Its colonizing SUPER FAST (25th till today 29th which is 4 days) and it will have better pin sets when conditions of fruiting is introduced.
Sorry photos are a bit foggy coz the pics are taken from outside the tub.

Sounds like you just need a bit more patience, I'm sure you'll be fully colononized within another 1-2 weeks at most. I'd suggest starting some new grain and getting it colonizing with some mycellium, so you can always have some shrooms in different stages of growth, which helps take my mind off how impatient I can be.
