Your help is needed to pass 3 groundbreaking Drug Policy Reform bills
in California:
MEDICAL MARIJUANA
SB 420 (Vasconcellos, D-San Jose) would establish a voluntary program
through the State Health Department for the issuance of identification
cards to qualified medical marijuana patients and their caregivers.
SB 420 was created in conjunction with a task force convened by the
California Attorney General that brought patients, medical experts and
law enforcement to the table in an effort to craft a piece of
legislation that most everyone could support. The bill is a good-faith
compromise that should serve as a solid first step in offering
California medical marijuana patients an additional layer of protection
against police harassment and/or prosecution and will offer law
enforcement officials a simple manner of identifying medical marijuana

HELP STOP AIDS
SB 774 (Vasconcellos, D-San Jose), a bill co-sponsored by the Drug
Policy Alliance, is the most important AIDS-related legislation to
be considered in California in over a decade. SB 774 will allow
adults to purchase clean syringes from pharmacies without a
prescription. This bill will reduce the incidence of HIV and
Hepatitis C in California without increasing rates of drug use or
costing the state any money. Governor Gray Davis vetoed a similar

STUDENT FINANCIAL AID
AJR 3 (Horton, D-Inglewood) memorializes the federal government to
repeal
the provisions that prohibit students with drug convictions from
receiving
financial aid. In 1998 Congress passed an amendment to the Higher
Education
Act (HEA) that delays or denies federal financial aid to individuals
convicted of any drug offense. AJR-3 sends a clear message from
California
to the federal government: increasing access to education is an
effective
way to help young Americans achieve their full potential by empowering
them

Is that No Student Aid thing just a Cali thing? Or is that nationwide? I mean, I thought it was national, but does Cali have its own? Such bullshit...
