Casing was put on when tray was made now extreme overlay
    #1571842 - 05/23/03 12:27 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

The trays were put together with straw and wormcastings and cased with coconut coir and oyster shell. The casing went on the same day the tray was made. Everything seemed to be fine, they were exposed to light at 30% coverage. Fanned and misted twice a day, but the mycelium continued to spread until it covered the whole surface. Pins came for first flush but 5-6 shrooms fully developed in the 9x13 trays. Mexi-cub was used, in the past there were lots of small shrooms now just a few big ones. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can anyone tell me about when they do their casings and/or what they have done about overlay problems. If all the pinheads from last flush are removed can more coir just be put on top?

You could scrape the top layer off and re-case. ( careful with contams tho!!)

if you have pins that have stopped growing, you need to remove them.. tweesers work well if you don't have too many to do....

usually, you mix your grain/brf/whatever with poop/straw/verm/whatever. and cover it with foil until you get 100 % colonization, THEN cover it with coco coir ( casing layer ) and cover again with foil for a few days until you see a tiny amount of colonization on top. patch this, cover again 24 hrs. then open'er up and fruit
