boredom
    #1571655 - 05/23/03 09:27 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

what wicked curse was placed upon those content to think and talk about everything but that which they really find interesting?

why do some people lack a good sensation for boredom?

--------------------
Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

What is it about boredom that scares people so deeply that they constantly avoid it?

I rarely experience boredom anymore....

Whenever I'm in a situation where I would have been bored a few years ago, nowadays I just THINK - its a lost art in most "civilized" humans apparently; just sitting and thinking..

Whenever I try to get my friends to just chill and think or even listen to music (which gives ME worlds of shit to do with my mind..), they get all fuckin restless and stuff.. It drives me nuts how easily people get bored!! dammit chill out!

I dare everybody to spend an hour next week just thinking. Don't read, don't listen to music, don't watch television, don't pet your dog; just THINK. just chill and think.

Its not so hard  - I think we shroomers may have learned the art of relaxation better than many, but I'll bet some of us here still can't just sit back and think for a while without starting to think about the present or the near future and what their plans are for the evening or whatever heh..

Something has to change.
Un-deniable dilemma.
Boredom's not a burden
Anyone should bear.

Constant over stimu-lation numbs me
and I wouldn't have
It any other way.

It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To feel, to breathe, to know I'm alive.

There is a difference between having nothing to do and being bored. Boredom has a negative connotation. when someone tells me they are bored I hear them saying that they are frustrated with having nothing to do. "What is it about boredom that scares people so deeply that they constantly avoid it?" I love having time with nothing to do. That doesn't mean I'm bored. I don't want to be frustrated and upset. I don't purposly avoid boredom but i do, simply by thinking, or going on the shroomery, or writing.

Go through the orange yesterday

I watched intently for a while to both sides, infront of me and behind me.
I was impressed to learn there was another way to look... UP!
More impressive still was the fact that there were beautiful stars in this direction
Most amazing fact of all was the prospect of another direction when I was done with up. DOWN! Which, based on the feel through my toes would be a fine sandy beach!

Over thinking, overanylizing
separates the body from the mind

Sorry, I just sometimes think that I could answer everything with Tool lyrics.

do they have a view on whether or not this separation is "good" or "bad?"

do they have a view on whether or not this separation is "good" or "bad?"

With my feet upon the ground I lose myself
between the sounds and open wide to suck it in,
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out,
I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.

Spiral out. Keep going

Stinkfist here is right.

Boredom is a symptom of desensitization.

...and a mechanism of denial of true self. Television is a true corruptor in this due to the "constant overstimulation" of the brian by showing frames in such speed and sequence. It literally tricks the mind into avoiding detail and changing frames as fast in 3D reality. Ever notice how after watching too much television you feel totally out of it and somehow different...this is one reason for this. Major dissentization...

ive been thinking about this lately

i used to stress when i'd have no plans or nothing social to do or whatever. It really got right on top of me. it still does sometimes.

why was I so afraid to just chill out by myself? such inbalance... It's like some sort of race to see who is getting the farthest on a saturday night...

I passed out this afternoon and woke up at like 10 pm. This familiar fear krept into my brain like I was missing out on something because I was here alone. But as quickly as it came, I just breathed and relaxed and it passed right on through.

the reality is that i'm right here alone in my bedroom, free to do whatever i want, and when morning comes, i can go anywhere i want from there... and Im not sure why i was so eager to escape that reality.

We're not missing any parts, people!
we work!

I love hanging out with cool people, but I refuse to do aything driven by desperation anymore.
I find the less you worry about that shit, the more fun and meaningfulness you have on your own, and then before you know it there is no longer that 'void' between being alone and hanging out with people. It's all connected and flows in harmony. and thats what its all about isnt it?

thanks for that post grav. that post seems to be the conclusion ive been coming to lately. the void between this and that. that desperation to do something. the desperation is futile, lately its just meant nothing but trouble. so FOOK it i say. the harmony, the balance, the ambience.... yes... yess

I think I've become more balanced than I previously thought I was. That's always good to hear from myself.
