Water Condensation on BRF Jars
    #1570723 - 05/23/03 12:37 AM (15 years, 6 days ago)

My friend has 3 tuppaware jars of BRF colonizing really nicely. He had thought that there was too much water in the jars as he PC'd them for too long (like 45 minutes at 15 PSI (1/2 pint jars)) and it looked pretty mushy. But he has a really healthy 75% colonized cake (really rhizomorphic growth too) after like a week and a half. The rate of growth seems to suggest they will be done by sunday (exactly two weeks). However, towards the end, he has noticed the cake getting much smaller and a lot of water droplets near the new mycellia patches on the sides (as the jar colonizes more areas). Is that normal? My friend is planning on dunking the cake before its cased in sea of shrooms.

It's normal... the cake shrinks due to consuming nutrients and water in the substrate, and becoming a tighter mycelial network. The water droplets are normal.

I think from observation that water condensation is good, because myc. growth is happening/about to happen. However, they could be unrelated.
