Cheap and quick way to dry mushrooms with supplies you probably already have! 1

Here's my latest creation.

I have a fish tank air pump sealed in a 1 pint wide mouth jar, A half gallon jar filled with damp rid flakes, and another 1 pint jar with a small amount of mushrooms.
Air flows from the pump, out the lid, down to the bottom of the damp rid flakes and is dried out as the air flows through the flakes to the top. From there, the air is routed to the bottom of the jar with the mushrooms in it, and then the air is cycled back into the jar with the air pump. This way, the same air is cycled over and over again so no ambient humidity is allowed to waste use of the damp rid.
Just made it a few hours ago and the mushrooms are already about half way to cracker dry!
Just thought I should share this in case anyone else wants to give it a try.

I decided to redo this with metal lids so the lines wont get all tangled up when removing the lids.
Also added a few notes with the follow pic.

cool setup, the drying chamber is a bit small though maybe try it with a gallon pickle jar.

Looks like a pretty awesome experiment. Got a drying time frame for a general weight?

pretty neat mad scientist setup. I just set my little mushies on a rack on top a box fan though for a day or so

I tend to like my mushrooms fresh. Am I alone in this aspect?

No, not alone but when you're working with multiple tubs, and large quantities, drying is a must for long term .

Definitely a cool set up, though it only seems to work well with smaller amounts of mushies. I just set mine up in front of my 20" fan for a couple days until they are about 70% dry then I put em in a container with some desiccant packets; cracker dry in a couple more days.
Preference: I like my mushies dry, can't stand em fresh.

Pretty innovative, reminds me of some fun activity you find in those "SCIENCE AT HOME FOR KIDS AND PARENTS!" books (which I love.) Though like stated above I think in the long run the fan is better option if you're not doing a micro grow.
And for the record, I also prefer dry.

after a day, they were crisp dry. I'm trying it again with a slightly larger amount in a bigger jar. Also topped off the jar with some more damp rid. This new bag of damp rid is not the flakes, but some sort of pelletized stuff. it's what's at the top of the desiccant jar in this pic.

To save yourself damp rid, and money, you should run it without the damp rid jar connected for a day then add your damp rid jar after they are already dried. Either that or jut fan dry them first then use this for the last part of the drying process.
You should also do a comparison to see how much faster it is with the damp rid.
Good idea though, good thinking.

Until the 20th century, reality was everything humans could touch, smell, see,
and hear.
Since the initial publication of the charged electromagnetic spectrum, humans
learned that what they can touch, smell, see, and hear... is less than one
millionth of reality.

So what was the end result of this?

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.
There's a part of every living thing that wants to become itself: the tadpole into the frog, the chrysalis into the butterfly, a damaged human being into a whole one. That is spirituality.

I got a dehydrator lol
Don't get me wrong, the thing worked. I'd fan dry for 2 days and then put the mushrooms in this thing for 2 more days. Very effective, but I eventually got the spare money to throw down on a nice dehydrator and you just can't beat that.
