They won't really speed up with more gas exchange. However, they will grow more proportional and natural looking with more airflow. If you don't have any or little gas exchange during the pinning stage, you'll get tall skinny mushrooms with small caps. This is because there is a co2 build up, and the mushrooms keep trying to grow above it, into the fresh air. If your gas exchange is optimal, your mushroom caps(in the case of cubensis) should be almost as wide as the stem is tall. The stem being a bit longer in length. The Lizard,

This is true, while they might not grow (much)faster, they will grow nicer looking. I also find the air flow from a pump to aid in the molecularization of the water in perlite.keep it movin' keep it fresh. Yeh those pumps can be kinda noisy cant they? Anyone put a muffler on their bubbler?

The most overlooked aspect of good air exchange is contams. Increase air exchange, kill contams. Nearly all contams flourish, in fact require, stagnant air. Air exchange is good.------------------ -From a registered Mad Scientist "From a certain point of view" -Jedi Master Obiwan Kenobi (also a Mad Scientist tm)

PM me with any cultivation questions.
I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Jetlag,How do you set up your air pump? Is there a specific kind that's ideal?is your tank sealed? and if so, how do you deal with exhaust?

For a less noisy variation of an air pump, try using an aquarium powerhead with a hose attached to the air intake valve to suck the CO2 out of the terrarium. Submerge the powerhead in a thing of water so it doesn't run dry. I haven't tried this yet, however, I used it to power a protein skimmer on a salt water fish tank. Well, on second thought, maybe it's not that quiet. Check out http://www.petwhse.com/ for really cheap stuff. When I get my shit up and running, I'll probably use this either on a timer or manually because if left on all the time would be counterproductive to maintaining humidity. I know they also sell air pumps designed to be very quiet. Of course, Mom could still hear it.
