Does Damions tek hold high enough temp for pasteurization?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if damions coir tek will definately hold high enough temps for a good pasteurization because I read a few posts that say that the temps do not hold long in the 5 gallon bucket. I was just wondering if this was true or not? Also as far as sterility goes, would I be ok if I Lysol an empty room at my place without air circulation on for a couple of hours and then spawn in there when it's ready?

As the Tek is described: NO; but it works well when only using coir, verm and gypsum...
The way I do his Tek: YES; according to my thermometer

You want to make sure the middle of the sub stays at least 140 degrees for an hr.

I was fixing to make a thread on this topic but hopefully we can get some good discussion going here. Is it really as easy as the instructions list. Im switching from straw and manure to save time and energy, and wow does this seem easy. Seems like we must be missing something.
Supplies Needed
1 Brick of Coir 2 Quarts of Verm 5 Quarts of Spawn A 5 gallon bucket with a lid
STEP 1
For the above recipe I pour 4 or 4.5 quarts of water into a pan or in this case my Pressure Cooker. I turn the heat up to high and wait for it to boil.
STEP 2
I place 1 brick of coir in a 5 gallon bucket. SIMPLE I know.
STEP 3
Pour 2 quarts of vermiculite into the 5 gallon bucket with the coir.
STEP 4
Take the boiling water off the stove.
STEP 5
Pour the boiling water into the 5 gallon bucket over the coir/verm mix.
STEP 6
Put the lid on the bucket and let it sit for 30-60 minutes.
STEP 7
After the 30-60 minutes you need to come back and stir everything up really well. Place the lid back on it and let it sit for 2-4 hours.
STEP 8
Spawn when the temp drops enough or after 4 hours +
Please share your tips and tricks for preparing Coir!

Does it really say that HS? LOL, I have to read it again. (it has been a long while now...)
I had thought that dumping 212 F water into the bucket would only drop the temps a bit initially. (~190?)
I thought that the limited downside is that you are not under doing it, but over doing it, temp-wise.
i.e. that this is a sanitization tek as opposed to a pasteurization tek (to borrow Hamloaf's term).
In any case, you make it work. ;0)
Take care,
JD

I don't know if it achieves true pasteurization but it does seem to be adequate. As for spawning sterility is not needed when dealing with fully colonized or pasteurized substrates but it's still a good idea to keep things as sanitary as possible.

Yeah... I start by using a screw-top (after market) lid on my bucket... I fully crumble my coir... Weight and add my coir, then verm, then mineral additives... I bring my measured water to ~185degF (+/-5degF); dump into bucket and quickly screw down the lid... Speedily I place the bucket atop a folded blanket, another folded blanket atop the bucket and yet another wrapped around it... I then do not disturb it for 80~90 minutes...

Recently; I've been adding gypsum @ 2% by dry weight and AZOMITE @ 2% by dry weight...
My recipe (currently) is: 800g coir 400g verm ~24g (1/8c) gypsum ~24g (1/8c) AZOMITE ~3200+ml water

i use a big thick tub. i set it on a thick towel and cover it up with a blanket. i put the water in at 180. thats less than boiling. my temps stay perfect according to my thermometer. i use four bricks and and a 23qt pressure cooker filled with boiling water(3 inches from the top). little bit of lime, bloodmeal,4qt verm and 2 qt perlite. this brings some pretty big mushies. they say coco coir has small fruits. but i have found this not to be totally true. if supplement with straw, you defenatly get some gigantic fruits.

This sounds more up my ally instead of a brick at a time. But you kinda confused me. You say you add water at 180F, then you say your pressure cookers filled with boiling water? Almost boiling water? Also do you mind telling how you tell if the coir is properly hydrated?
