Colonizing cakes
    #15685672 - 01/18/12 08:59 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

To hopefully make it short, 1/2 pint jars pf-tek, inoculated 7 days ago with a aggressive colonizing exotic. All jars 1/3 colonized and look amazing. However, I have noticed that the substrate is shrinking and pulling away from the bottom leaving what appear to be dried balls of verm and flour. Followed a strain proven receipt, others wise the myco growth is incredible.  Any comments or if more info needed let me know.

As your cakes colonize the mycelium will use up nutrients and water causing the cake to shrink. This is normal and you shouldn't worry.

You don't have a specific question in your post but I'm assuming your question is what I answered above.

Good luck!

The mushroom speaks: '"I am old, older than thought in your species, which is itself fifty times older than your history. Though I have been on earth for ages I am from the stars. My home is no one planet, for many worlds scattered through the shining disc of the galaxy have conditions which allow my spores an opportunity for life... How the hypercommunication mode operates is a secret which will not be lightly given to man. But the means should be obvious: it is the occurrence of psilocybin and psilocin in the biosynthetic pathways of my living body that opens for me and my symbiots the vision screens to many worlds"

Thanks for the reply, my thoughts were more of concern than questions at the time, I new that this was going to happen but not this soon, which led me to think that the me or the recipe was off and to dry.
