Bags
    #15685420 - 01/18/12 08:00 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I have about 3 large mycobags... I have some colonized grain left in 2 quart jars (about 1/4 left)

Could I take a brick of coir and split them into each bag and throw some grain in there?

Will they colonize and fruit?

Or am I better off getting some more WBS and prepping it and putting them in the bags then G2G the bags from the jars?

(never worked with bags before)

Depending how stretched your colonized grain is, the best approach would be to expand the grain to more grain.

If you want to grow in the bags. g2g your grain to more jars and save the bags for the grow.

If you pasteurized the coir, added some vermiculite, then yes; it'd be just like any other prepared substrate (think mono-tub in a bag). Let it colonize and consolidate, then you can fruit it right out of the bag.

Okay perfect thats what I figured, Ive just seen a lot of pics with people with grains in bags...

Ill just prep my coir as usual, put the proper amount in the bags and add the grain, then let colonize and fruit?

yep do that but i actually like to crumble the grain and add it to the bag first to make sure it isnt getting patches on the bottom without grain.  then just wait till it pins open it up and mist and fan if you want.  if youre lazy you can just let em go though depending on the filter.

yup, thats what I did with my reishi in my sig, only I PD'd my bag of sawdust and shavings, then spawned grain to the bag, tied it, then shook it up.

If you're going to do coir or any other fruiting from a bag, I'd recommend getting some nylon rope or any type of heavy string/rope to tie the bag shut. I normally fold the bag along the gussets, and then fold it over itself to cut off air supply (if you have filter patch). Then just tie twin/string/rope around the top to hold it. This way you can shake/knead your bag to disperse the colonized grain throughout the bag.

I have VERY successful colonization when putting 1 qt spawn to a large bag (3-5 lbs) then shake very well.

Best vibes!
