Cakes almost finished!
    #15684933 - 01/18/12 06:26 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

So I hear a lot of people say let cakes be cakes and you will get more, but some say do bulk.

so what should i do guys? I have been reading up on both and both seem good. this is my first time.
Bulk or Cake?
You may choose only one

If it is your first time I would suggest fruiting it as a cake for the
highest chance of success. Also you will have a better understanding after
wards of the life cycle of P. cubensis to apply to later projects.

Try both.  See which one works best for you in your unique grow situation/environment.  Fruiting cakes as cakes is easier then spawning crumbled BRF cakes into a bulk substrate also, the lesser amount of cultivation steps in between spore to fruit, decreases your risk of infection.

I believe it's between casings and cakes when saying 'leave cakes as cakes'

Bulk means your adding your colonized cakes(broke up) into MORE substrate such as poo, coir, straw, ect and then the already colonized chunks of cake will begin to colonize the new bulk substrate thus giving you substantially more colonized material ready to fruit.

Also I believe cakes aren't a very effective method at that and that is why grains are used for bulk spawn and not cakes.

Is the gain in bulk dry weight significantly better?

That depends on how much you spawn to.

This is going to depend on a large amount of environmental and genetic factors.  Which is why I suggested to try them both to see which method works best for you in your own unique grow situation and environment.
