Cake breakdown
    #15684604 - 01/18/12 05:14 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Well my cakes are almost fully colonized, and I will be using a coil tek. I read somewhere that I can used a grater to break down my cakes into small pieces. Does that sound accurate? Can someone please confirm that for me? I don't have a food processor.

TIA

You don't need a grater. You can just crumble them by hand in a bag if you're going the bulk route.

Using a hand held cheese grater (not a food processor) will create a spawn
that has more inoculation points over crumbling the cakes in a bag.

Does one dunk before a crumble?

No need to dunk before you crumble your cakes, your bulk substrate will
be providing the moisture that your mycelium needs to put out a strong
first flush.

Thanks for confirming that, I will be doing that in a couple of days since my last jar had a eraser size spot that need to be colonized.
