One idea I did have about God that I found interesting happened to me one day while I was petting my dog and trying to figure out what she was thinking (I was on schrooms). If far in the future dogs became as intelligent as we, had long since stopped being our pets, and we were no where to be found, would their instincts allow them to remember the sense of caring, and love we provided, and would that feeling translate into the belief of "God"?

Completely hypothetical situation. Very far fetched. But would the fact they we have been so intrumental in the survival of the species(not that they wouldn't have survived without us, it would just be a drastically different life for them) and that we have cared for them for so long, do you think that this could transfer to instinct, and lead them to believe in a higher power once we were gone, and they developed an intelligence equal to our own?

Beings that express a certain threshold of sentience tend (though I only have one species' history to work with here) to want (need?) freedom.
Your lapdog would probably shit on your furniture more if you treated it the way you do now (i.e. eating crappy grade B meat out of a dish on the floor, having to shit in plain view of others, being walked on a leash, etc.). There would be no survival advantage for such creatures... as we humans would just put the "uncontrollable animals" to sleep.

What of wild animals that have been caged. Although some will put up with it, I don't think any prefer that to their natural habitat.
I'm also not convinced that we would put the animals to sleep becuase they developed intelligence. Besides, I did say that we were long gone. Let's just say that virus evolved that killed the entire human population (although I don't think this could ever happen) for arguments sake.

Well, I said what I said because I figured intelligence wouldn't come all at once.... it's a trait that would have to evolve to better ensure the survival of the species. So, they would start out at the lower end of the intelligence spectrum, therefore, I would say that a smarter dog would be more of an annoyance for humans than anything (see above).

But we can speculate.
Is it possible that early in our species evolution, that we were pets of another species?

My dog isn't honest. Sometimes she comes in my room and barks at me, and I think she has to go outside. So I get up to go let her out, but she really didn't want to go out; she just wanted a treat!
My damn dog tricked me!
Hahaha. 
I gave her a treat anyway, though.

We could in fact be training a gigantic race of nonhuman beings to be our successors in the ruling of the world. Do you think it is purposeful, on some sort of strange subconscious level??

I refuse to form even a working belief with nothing more than speculation.
The fossil record shows nothing.
Human history (the written part at least) provides hard evidence that civilization and technology have followed a pattern of evolution themselves (iron age-> bronze age----> industrial revolution--> the computer you're typing on). It's not a big jump for me to conclude that the First Americans (and the rest of the world) were nomadic (read: "wild") and have now domesticated themselves (Can you say CA-SI-NO?!).
But hey.... if you want to believe that your great^100-grandparents were merely pets of some aliens on vacation (the pyramids were their summer homes, right?), then who the fuck am I to inject some doubt into your perfect system of beliefs, eh?
