I know coarse verm isnt the best for cakes but its the only verm i could find where i live my last batch of cakes got a little water logged using the standard 2:1:1 verm/brf/water, did not realize that formula was for fine vermiculite until i did a little more reading. so my question is how much less water should i be using ? or should i try and make my coarse verm into fine verm using a blender or something lol

I put the verm in a bowl and then add water until just a little dribbles out of the bottom after a good stir.
Then I add my brf and coat the outside of the verm.
Works awesome every time.

the water level is fairly important, but u shouldnt have to deviate to much from the ratio, maybe try to add half the water at first,an add the other half as needed,i wish i would've found the coarse shit,id crush to a happy medium

are you 4sure that your ratio made it waterlogged?if your foil waznt fitted real proper or poretape waznt used, you received extra h2o from boiling/pcing..

The foil is enough to keep water from entering, as long as they are elevated a little off the bottom of the pot/pc. I've only used the coarse verm when I did cakes and used a coffee grinder to break it up some. You should have no problems with it then.

Has anyone ever had their vermiculite marked the wrong grade?
The reason why I ask, is because I just got a 40lb bag of thermarock vermiculite marked medium, but it's the finest vermiculite I have ever gotten.
Im not sure I would want fine, as this medium grade vermiculite is very small and and almost dust like. I definitely wouldn't want to put this in a coffee grinder.
Does anyone have any experience with the brand thermarock? I got mine at home depot.
