Matching Filter and Blower (Slightly Under)

I have purchased a 24x24x5.8 HEPA filter from Flanders, and am about to pull the trigger on this ACI blower, I just want to make absolutely sure that I'm doing this right.
I found a blower by ACI that delivers about 420 cfm at 1.2"
VBL8
and I am RELATIVELY certain I have found the same blower on eBay. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF THIS IS NOT THE SAME BLOWER AS THE ONE IN THE CHART ABOVE!
VBL8???
Will this work out? Is 420 @ 1.2 enough for the filter I grabbed?

it could work i would get one a little bit bigger the blowers arent as efficent as they claim.. its best to go bigger than to small because you can just block part of the intake,, and remember to take in the fact of the resistance of a pre-filter as well

i have that filter....it calls for 500cfm , that 420 will work without a prefilter....but when you add the prefilter ,you will lose alot cfm's you don't want to run it much without a prefilter

What blower do you have penhed?
I looked for 3 hours and that was the closest match I could find
Let me be clear: that blower delivers 420 CFM AT 1.2", not 1". There is an extra .2" slack for the prefilter. Will that do?

All you have to do is match or have more static pressure on your blower then what your Hepa's pressure drop is, That way you will have true "Laminar flow" As for CFM, you need enough to blow a lighter flame 60-90* without turbulance. My Flowhood has a 250CFM Hepa filer unit, It blows filtered air into a plenum with a tightly woven secondary filter to give the whole thing some static pressure to ensure I have Laminar flow.

In your case, Just match the Static pressure to your filter or go a bit higher on the blower side if you must, And if you have to much CFM you can cut back the Intake to reduce airflow, Or you can wire in a rheostat (Most furnace blowers can be run at 80% with no harm to the motor.)
All in all, If your filters static pressure drop is 1.0" you need a blower that put out 1.0-1.5 or around there. and I would go with a 350-450 CFM blower for that size of a filter to produce enough flow to bend a lighter flame 90* at 1-2" from the filter face.

You dont want to reduce static pressure on the intake of your blower to much, Because if you dont have enough airflow your squirrel cage fan with have less air resistance (Static Pressure) And will rev up to high, The blower motor will eventually over-heat and turn off to temp limits.
In other words if you use to thick of a prefilter, And you reduce your static pressure to much on the intake, You will have to reduce the size of the output hole to raise the static pressure on the Hepa side, to make sure you blower doesnt turn off. And then you would still have to make sure you have enough static pressure to keep your HEPA satisfied, or bye bye laminar flow..
The easiest way, Match your filter to your blower(Static pressure wise) or .5 more on the blower, With 350-450cfm for that size of a HEPA filter.
Build your box, Run your hood, and see how it works, Do the lighter test all over to check for turbulance and airspeed, Then run it for a few hours, Make sure it doesnt shut off. If it has turbulence, or the airflow is to fast, block the intake a little with a prefilter, or some cardboard. If this causes your blower to overheat block the output to the filterbox (with your hepa) a little with some cardboard or wood etc... Do your tests again. You should be fine.
