First Grow - Indoor v. Outdoor

This is my first grow ever, so I decided to pick a strain that's closest to my climate zone. I have TC growing on rice cakes in jars right now. I've been reading about indoor and outdoor cultivation, but I'm not sure what's best for me. I have a yard, but there's a lot of stray cats in the neighborhood. I've read about growing in tubs and stuff, and that doesn't seem hard, but I kind of don't want to deal with a lot of equipment. I've already got a hydro system that's like my girlfriend - high maintenance.
I like some of the indoor teks I've read here, but I'm also really intrigued by Moe's Outdoor Tek.
If you care to weigh in, I'm all ears. My brain is like a sponge right now waiting to soak up all the knowledge you care to throw at me.

indoor grows are more controllable but outdoors allowes you to use alot more space and have a higher yield.
i suggest growing the cakes till their all used up and thro them in ur yard and let them grow.

Do some in doors, in a tote with some perlite for a safe bet.
I really like out door grows, during the summer months. I just place some 100% colonized cakes in a bed of verm and cover with leaves. Water, and come back in a week. It works great.
I was kinda disappointed when I tried moes out door tek with cakes. But I was using bagged manure.

Moe's tek says to use the cheap manure from Wal Mart, so I'm kind of surprised that bagged manure didn't work. I can get my hands on some fresh, organic worm castings. Would those be good to use?

Yeah, I dunno why it didn't work out well. It started going into the organic bag manure and straw pretty well at first. Then only grew out a few inches and failed. It seemed like a huge out door mono tub at the time.
Fresh would probably work great as long as there isnt any ammonia left in it.

You know...I got about 5 cakes going here. Maybe keeping one inside in one of those DIY tub things and putting some outside wouldn't be a bad idea. They look fairly easy to make.
I'm not sure why some set ups are what appear to be just a colonized cake on a layer of perlite, and others appear to have dirt or trays in them (like the mono tub). I want to try to get this as right as possible first shot out. Ideally, I'd like to keep anything indoor pretty lo-tek.

Try outdoors. You never said what part of the country you live in, either. Where are you at?

I'm in FL. I chose TC because the real Treasure Coast is just a 2 hour drive away. I figured I'd start with a strain that is closest to where I am. When I saw TC, I figured it was a no brainer.

I'd do both. You are going to have a higher success rate if you do it indoors. Although you are in a great climate to grow outdoors
I always get things eating (sharing) my outdoor mushrooms so they tend to not have the same table appeal
You'll love growing indoors and as said you can then move the spent subs outdoors to fruit again usually the biggest shrooms too.

The pf tek is low tek. Watch the "Let's Grow Mushrooms" vids on YouTube, and read up on pf tek here. It's very simple and straightforward. You don't need a still air box like in the vid, btw. I don't own a pressure cooker, and steam-sterilized my jars for 90 minutes and had 0 contams. Growing indoors you can control the conditions and really nail down where you went wrong if you do mess up. Seriously, it is very low key and easy to do.

Do you know of any specific animals that are attracted to them? We have a lot of cats, some iguanas, ducks, lizards, and a stray chicken. I want to make it as natural looking as possible in my yard, don't want to really call attention to the patch.
