funky off-white/gray stuff
    #1567474 - 05/21/03 11:23 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

My neighbor's pet rabbit told me and I quote:

"I followed the MMGG to the "t" and innoculated 7 half pint pf jars with PES Amazonian w/ approximately 1.5 cc's per jar. I incubated this jars at around 75 deg F for 19 days and then the past two days at 85 deg F. So I'm at day 21 and I don't see the characteristic white dots of mycelium but instead a soft off white/gray coating or film covering the verm/brf that is growing very slowly and not symmetrical to what I have read is common with pf tek innoc. I've noticed the increase in incubation temps has sped up the growth of the substance. I'm not sure if it's contams or not. Should I be a patient young jedi or should I chuck the jars outta my hutch?

The rabbit seemed pretty anxious about this considering it's his first time and all...
and he thanks you in advance for your input..

By the way you describe it here:

Quote:

I don't see the characteristic white dots of mycelium but instead a soft off white/gray coating or film covering the verm/brf

I'd say with little doubt that you have cobweb.........But when you say this:

Quote:

that is growing very slowly

You throw me through a loop. Cobweb usually races through a jar.

I really don't know, how long has it been grey, and how big is the grey area, and do all the jars have the same grey?

That slow growing part threw me to.

Just a guess but I had a similar problem and it was a result of water seeping into the jars during PC. I think they are waterlogged.

Do you have pictures?

My 2 Cents, could be wrong
