the philisophical aspects of totalitarianism
    #1567290 - 05/21/03 10:30 PM (15 years, 3 days ago)

how does a totalitarian government effect its citizens ability to exchange thoughts and ideas?

is a totalitarian structure conducive to more or less independant thought?

possibilities: it allows more because the citizens hav e a unified idea of their roles in society.

-it allows less because it limits a citizens ability to express thoughts that diverge from the government's ideology.

thoughts?

I think a government that is totalatarian forces people to believe and act a certian way that disrupts free-thinking. I would hate to be forced to believe a certian way when I do not.

Unifikation shouldn't have to enforce conformity.

Well I lived under a totalitarian government for years, (Argentina)
One of the reasons the military took power in Argentina was to eliminate the "extremist" that?s how they called them back then.
People were actually happy that they took control in the beginning.
What fallowed later were the darkest times in that country, missing people every ware, they could detain you with out a lawyer held you indefinitely, just by naming you "extremist"
There were censorships in every thing, you could not even get or see movies nor read books or listen to Music that weren?t morally "correct". (the Church had a heavy hand on this)
Needless to say that corruption run super high, and all the good deals they are giving to friends of the ruling party.
Does this sounds familiar of what is beginning to happen here USA?
The only thing I can tell you that once totalitarianism is in place is very hard to get rid of it, and frankly it sucks big time.
The only Plus, is that crime is very low.
?May you live in interesting times?
