:awewtf:
I don't see the connection between knowledge and solitude.

In response to the original question: ignorance is bliss. Sometimes it really is. Still, there are depressed retards and happy smart asses. What can you do? I guess the important difference between the intelligent and the ignorant is that the former are more eloquent in explaining how/why they are depressed. The latter just buy a bottle of cheap liquor and beat the crap out of each other.

It would be rather statistically likely that more than 50% are above average intelligence, based on the scientific studies that note people of greater intelligence are more likely to indulge in psychedelics than any other group of people.  I would argue that 83% is a bit high though...

I would be interested to see how many of the people that voted themselves above average intelligence (>100 IQ) have actually taken a "legitimate" intelligence quotient exam (being administered by a qualified proctor using specific testing procedure (not to be confused with an internet IQ test)...

I kind of laughed a bit too, but it kind of makes sense to me. Some of the smartest people that I feel I've met have been on drug-related forums, in fact on some of them I'd say most people seem to be of higher intellect, of course that's just my opinion though.

The shroomery though, not so sure about that statistic

Regardless if this is true, some pubescent girls try to flip this logic and by going all emo, try to convince others that they're intelligent...while in reality, they are enormous retards  I used to find that pretty annoying, but I've come to find it pretty hilarious lately.

Not to mention that more intelligent people are more likely to be able to sit around behind a computer screen all day and enjoy being involved in text-based activities a lot. Or, put differently: your average garbage man doesn't like to read shit all the time.

That seems to be the consensus, though I just know complete idiots as well, and I think that really drives it home for me.

Not like I feel they are inferior to my grand intellect, but they get drunk and crash their car at least once a year, beat the shit out of eachother over a hand of poker, etc. They are just one round of evolution above monkey (if that much), and it seems like the more people I meet, the more I feel the vast majority of people out there are knuckle dragging morons who update their facebooks about a funny billboard they saw while driving.

Maybe I just live in a city full of dumbasses

I guess my only gripe is outside of fart jokes type shit (which no I will not learn to laugh at, whoever mentioned that), people cannot handle an intelligent conversation about history or space or any abstract subject, without reverting back to one-liners after about 2 sentences. This conversation we are having right now is more thought out and composed than conversation I can drag out of most people.

Probably why I am on the comp 99% of the time when my girl is not around, where you 85% of intelligent shroomers are

I see where you're coming from but I think "intelligence" is far to ambiguous to generalize like that. Some people just aren't really into having conversations like that but it's not indicative of their intelligence. I've got two roommates at my University I've known since I was a kid....one's got a year left for a Mechanical Engineering degree and the other's getting a zoology degree then going on to grad school....neither of them is "stupid" and neither am I. BUT, the Mech E major really isn't into talks about space or the nature of reality or any abstract discussion or anything of the "what if" or "maybe" genre. He enjoys talking about technology and concrete tangible info. like advancements in robotics and things like that, while my other friend really enjoys talks like that and we talk about it that random stuff all the time.

My point being everyone has their own measure of intelligence and just because someone doesn't fit into your criteria for intelligence doesn't really mean anything. Intelligence really is subjective.

I'm sorry but surely someone who is fully aware of the worlds injustices, the futilities, the tragedies (as well as the opposites) but is able to be happy is more intelligent than someone who is not. Or at least they are more capable.

A lot of geeks and nerds at school are not always very physical or have physical intelligence or capabilities. That doesn't mean intelligent tend to be less sporty does it? Or does it? Because there are people who are all rounders. Being good at a whole load of things. Being socially capable. Being artistic, being knowledgable, being physically capable, being able to understand and decipher complex things, being able to express themselves well. Surely those people, although less common than the average intelligent nerd/geek/emo are actually people who are more intelligent all round?

Perhaps intelligent people who are socially incapable get more time to spend writing etc. But it doesn't make them more capable or intelligent all round.

Being able to recognise the beauty and order in the universe takes intelligence. Which may be why so many cosmologists/physicists are probably quite happy. Astronomers live longer on average than people who do not spend their time looking into the infinity in the skies.
