hello everyone, I am still kinda new to this forum so I feel the need to say hello.. OCD? naa (taps table 3 times) lol
anyway I had a small crop a few years back and although I knew nothing short of green=bad and that they need watered I still got 2 decent flushes and because I knew nothing I didn't even take a print. and I didn't have a pressure cooker anyway, not that I knew I needed one.
since then I bought "the mushroom cultivator" by paul stamets and j.s. chilton about 2 years ago. I have read it front to back too many times. BTW this is a great book very informative and easy to read/understand. amazon.com/Mushroom-Cultivator-Practical-Growing-Mushrooms/dp/0961079800
recently I got a nice hand me down pressure cooker and took it as as a sign. so I went out got a dozen mason jars, 20lb bag of annual rye grass seed some tubs a few fishtank heaters ect.. you get the point. everything was going great all 6 jars used multi spore injection colonized quickly. after shaking they finished up quicker than I thought they could, I was elated to put it mildly. the first attept failed, I was using an ultrasonic Mister and damn near flooded them. I need a better timer shortest on/off time is 30 min. need the good timer for FAE. second attempt grew a mold as soon as it started to pin and the whole thing seemed to just stop growing then died third attempt was going great then it practically died over night. I dug through it when I was shure it was a failure I found no mold odd smells or anything but due to past experience I can only conclude it had to be infected.
so now I'm starting over new space, new syringe new ideas.
the old area was kind of hard to clean completely although I bleach and lysol bomb the area maybe even a little over board results are showing its not good enough..
so I have a closet sized space that isn't being used isn't exposed to an exterior wall has no vents and a has tile floor. although it has old wood paneling on the walls I'm going to paint that and set up a tent inside the space to house my fruiting chamber. as far as how I'm going to construct that I'm still unshure on, only 2 viable options I can think of is pvc frame or 2x2 wood frame stappled and taped on( the inside both have ups and Downs although I think I'm leaning twards a painted wood frame exterior skeleton with a somehow detachable press through flap.
as for starting substrate I plan to use my 3 left over annual rye grass jars I have put away.I plan on doing multi spore injection.
I know I should make some vermiculite and BRF jars but coarse vermiculite is damn near impossible to find around where I live I have been everywhere and got a few strange looks asking for it, not even my closest friends know or will know about my personal hobbies, you never know how much other people know, and people love to talk.. hell I could probably smack anyone I know in the face with a fully colonized cake and they would have no idea what just hit them anyway. so seeing as I have no one to ask for an opinion. it seems like a good idea to ask a virtual room of myco enthusiasts for opinions.
any opinion,ideas,questions or hatemail welcome
