To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

PS: Might I suggest that the Shroomery Feedback forum, is a better venue for this type of discussion, if you want to be heard? That is where we discuss these types of issues...

I think that mr mushrooms is a bit nit-picky, but I'm not about to start calling people totalitarian. it would hard for a free internet forum to be all that autocratic.

we are a group of free minded individuals, but free minded expression is not tolerated as of late. this saddens me.

You have to remember that somebody spent their own money to buy a server, to buy bandwidth, to buy the domain names, etc. This isn't a sidewalk where tax payer's money pays for everything. If the people that own the equipment want to turn it off, they can pull the plug and there isn't a damn thing any of us can do about it. Totalitarian... most definitely... and if one of us doesn't like it, all we have to do is spend some of our own money, time, and effort to setup our own server and we can run it however we like.

I don't think it is positive or negative... it is simply the way it is. We are lucky that the internet allows us to go elsewhere if we dislike a site. When you live somewhere that has declared war on drugs, it is not so simple to get up and move.... on the internet you just type in a different url.

Yes, good post. I totally agree with it.

I just hope that the people who set up this site would want people to feel like they are welcome here at the Shroomery. I would assume that's their motive, considering this site is all about drugs like mushrooms that aren't legal.

The somebody that bought the server is us.

There was a fundraiser a while back in which we were asked to help purchase the new server.

In large the motives of the admin/mods are good. In minority are some who should not be where they are at.

We can all do our jobs as users by providing feedback. This site is here for us, not the admin/mods...their job is to just help keep things orderly...a huge job in itself, but that is what they volunteered for.

Thanks admin/mods! Remember to listen to your users.

Joshua

You are correct in saying that the users help buy the equipment through supporting our vendors.. The server we had the fundraiser for lasted for about a year before upgrades were needed to keep up with the larger demand. We now have 2 dual processor machines running the site.
