First Dunk

when i removed the verm layer from the top of the first cake that i cased i discovered that only the outside was colonized and thus inner nutrients were exposed when i removed the top verm layer. i continued anyway since the deed had been done and cased.
my second cake is 98% colonized and when it is fully colonized i plan on dunking it (it looks a bit dry). my question: should i expect a exposed layer underneath the top verm layer and if so should i continue to dunk anyway?
b.t.w. these are pint size b.r.f. pf tek cakes and they took a while to colonize and i doubt the inside of the cakes will be fully colonized due to their larger diameter.

Is that 98% an exact figure? Just kidding. Some things you can do 1. Flip it over/shake it up. 2. Just give it a day or two - as everyone will tell you, patience is a virtue. 3. Once birthed, due your best to remove any uncolonized substrate, thats were contam will grow. If they aren't really fully colonized, I wouldn't dunk, it is going to really increase the chance of contam. Also, use a nice h202 solution (1:10 with water). Good luck and welcome to the shroomery.

when its fully colonized on the out side ur suposta wait about a week after u see the out side for the indise to catch up but honestly it aint no big deal. i often took my cakes out with the bottom of the jars only half way around the bottom done. when u take it out ull notice that what wasnt colinized then will be shortly after birth. unless u get a contam but mycelium usually can take it over in this situation. but my advice is dont possibly ruin it if u dont have to.

I decided not to dunk before the first flush. i'll give it a couple more days and then birth it right on the lid leaving the verm layer intact with the cake now sitting on top of the verm, therby not leaving any nutrients exposed.
does anyone think letting the cake sit on the orignal verm layer would be a bad idea? thanks for any feedback.
