Find a potato.
Never tried sugar, or heard of anyone using it, which probably means it doesn't work.

Real maple syrup works fine.
Fake pancake syrup would probably work. It's usually just flavored corn syrup.
Use it like the karo tek and you should be good.

I make my LC's with sugar in the raw, which is unrefined sugar. It works amazingly. I don't know if sugar would work or not, but I know honey works well, too.

You got me curious so I did some searching.
Looks like normal table sugar (sucrose) is the worst choice. slow growth if any at all.

Wow! I kind of thought it wouldn't be such a great choice but I didn't think it'd be the worst. Haha I'll just hit up walmart and pick up some good ole karo syzurp.

Smart man - for some reason people love to half-ass mushrooms. It's like saying, "I want to grow weed, but I don't have potting soil, can I use this bag of gravel?"

I've used dextrose and i didnt get much growth at all. It worked but not very well. If you want the good stuff get some malt syrup and dilute it to 3.5% and boil for a few minutes, strain, then PC for 15 minutes. You can get it from whole foods or order it online for about $5, one jar should last u a couple of years. The difference between the growth in dextrose and a Malt syrup LC is extreme, you won't believe how thick your LC's will get if you use malt syrup!! I chose it because someone recommended it who had tried EVERYTHING over the coarse of many years doing this because of the vigorous growth!
