Why dont more people use Stove Pellets...
    #1566496 - 05/21/03 03:48 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

web page

That tek blows my mind. Its SOOOO easy, pretty much no worries with contam. My friend performed it for the first time the other day using approx a 1/2 quart of spawn per bag...and they are colonizing great. She just injected mycelium water into the bottom of the bags for more even growth. Anyways Straight up, this is the easiest way to produce large amounts of spawn FAST, and i dont understand why this tek isnt used more often.

Oh, and....using 1.5quarts dry stove pellets and a half quart spawn in 10 days you can have 6quarts colonized substrate.

Stove Pellets are compressed wood in small bits used for wood burning stoves. A few brands have burning additives, and a few dont...paid 3.50 Canadian for 40 pounds dry of them. They are available at hardware and fireplace store's. This is the cheapest easiest fastest way to produce large amounts of spawn that ive seen.

I got interested in the tek after hearing of someone using a 16" thick stove pellet substrate to produce an ARMS LENGHTH cubensis mushroom.

Also great for portabello's.

If people would like Ill have my friend make a picture tek in a week or so.

Yeah, I'd like to ask that also. What are stove pellets I had a look around and couldn't really find anything. But that does look like a fairly basic tek.

Do that. Even though I don't think I'll find them(stove pellets) here in the south.

Well, I found a site that said "They are made entirely of wood by-products from sawmills. They produce no dirt, virtually no smoke, no soot or tar, no sparks, no odor, no pitch, and virtually no ash."

Heres a link with a pictorial but it uses a quasi pasturization rather than peroxide, it is inferior to the tek provided. http://www.kitchenculturekit.com/Mushroom/sawdust.htm

Heres a great link with Tex Cubensis on Stove Pellets Lots of Pics and Info: http://www.nansnook.com/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=34&t=4795
