Harvesting shrooms.

Ok, so I haven't quite reached the point at which I need to harvest yet but this question came to mind. When hunting mushrooms in the wild (morels) it is customary to cut the stem of the mushroom and leave a small bit of stem left on the ground so as to not disturb the mycellium network that produced the mushroom and possibly allow it to produce more. Is this necessary when harvesting from cakes?

Thanks for clearing that up Anno. I (obviously) could not cultivate even a nasty foot fungus without the help of the forum.
