Casing question....
    #1566288 - 05/21/03 02:31 PM (20 years, 10 months ago)

Hi there, I was wondering if I could use the same recipie for my PF cakes (Vermiculite, Brown Rice Flower) for the top layer of my Casing mix... I dont see why not, however I had not seen it in the FAQ's and I wanter to know before I wasted 2 perfectly good cakes...

Thanks for your help

casing is suposta be a NON NUTRIENT LAYER TO PROTECT AND PROVIDE WATER. brf unfortently has nutrents in it thats y it is used in jars. u can use just plain vermiculatewater down 75 % or there r tons of ways and things to use in shroomery. so if u were to use what u want to u would only be wasting ur time.
so no u cant use it no point in it

Im not talking about the bottom layer, Im talking about the layer on top of the Crumbled cake... I thought that the reason that you where supposed to put Vermiculite and Coco, or Peat Moss ontop is to the Mycielum was to keep eating and keep spreading...

Tell me if im wrong... Im a bit of a newbie (infact this is my first shot)

Word,
You can use straight Vermiculite as a casing layer, but at that point, just fruits the cake normally double siding them with vermculite or rolling the cake in damp vermiculite. As in, a striaght vermiculite casing layer isnt really that good of a casing layer. You may just want to "case" the ends of the cake instead.
