Go to a farm and supply store or any type of farm place or seed store and ask for winter rye. It's 50 cents a pound most places. If they don't have I bet they could tell you where to get it. Maybe call a few places. Hope this helps a little.

I called almost every feed store, nobody has it. Any other suggestions? Anywhere in the bay area?

Organic health food stores always carry it along with a variety of other berries. They are 1 dollar a pound at my health food store.

Call Sunrise Natural Foods, there's one in Roseville on Douglas Blvd., and place a special order.

Also there are towns a lot closer to you than the bay which are considered farm towns that can probably help you man check around in Lodi maybe? It'll save you the far trip.

Spend the extra money for organic rye berries. The ones that are not organic might have been sprayed with fungicides that can really hurt your yields. I know that thanks to Roger Rabbit's video Let's Grow Mushrooms, thanks Rabbit!
If you are looking to go bulk Paul Stamet has a walk by technique for the manure that they pile up in remote farm fields that has already been sun baked sterilized. He said to bring your colonized substrate and just inoculate the rows of manure. Wait a while, come back and pick the goods and then you are an official guerrilla farmer.

Azure Standard serves San Diego, and so I think that you can use them where you are.
You can get a 50 lb. sack for $20 (shipped!).
Good luck,

Nice of you to try and help but those cities are about 500 miles apart will they really deliver it??
OP if you want wheat or milo hit me up you're like 45 minutes away and I can get wheat for 14.99 for a 50pound bag

Azure Standard serves most of the western US.
It is the east coast that cannot use Azure, IIRC.
...but you have a good price too.

So will they actually ship it off for $20? Like 500 miles away from their location? That sounds better to me

Rye is not the only grain that will grow myc, ya know lol
I can't find rye anywhere near where I live, so decided to try out wheat berries.
To my complete surprise, they've turned out to work just as well as rye. They seem to be more widely available, and sometimes even cheaper than rye.

my friend start using wild bird seed instead. I believe the 25 or 50lb bags have the best mix of seed. It's a whole lot more readily available and cheap. Bump up CC's of spores in quarts to 3-6CC. It sounds excessive, but considering the time involved when the grain is drying out, I say do it!

You're all determined to make this more complicated and difficult than it has to be, aren't you?
There are like 4 Sunrise Natural Foods in Sacramento, and you can get a 25 pound bag in like 2 days for 20 bucks.
Just call them up.
Oh, and the company that Javadog mentioned, Azure, is awesome. They ship UPS. I ordered 50 pounds and got it delivered for 50 bucks out the door.

I think I'm making it pretty easy. I'm under an hour away, have sourced two different suppliers, both of which have prices at less than half of that winning
