When my friends popcorn jars have fully colonized (and the jars CAN'T stay indoors to fruit) do you think it would be wise to set up a plastic bin out in the woods or something with the cakes in that? Lemme know what you think. -Mr.Sleep

The woods are pretty close, so it'd be no problem for my friend to walk there daily and manage it, outdoor teks seem to complex, to much shit to find/buy. -Mr.Sleep

Would I bother even sterilizing the manure and straw though? That's the part that REALLY turns me away from growing like that-sterilizing cow shit. -Mr.Sleep

Dont be afraid of the outdoors. Picked my first shrooms off a discarded casing yesterday.Just threw it out because it was contaminated, and it started fruiting again. If I had done a tek,it would have produced a lot more. Its sitting in a pile of urine soaked pine shavings from the praire dogs cage, which I understand isnt really good for them, but its still producing. Its raining again today,so I might have more in a few days! I learned something.I'm going to get a shovel.

You can sterilize or pasteurize if you want, I learned this a few days ago when i started my first patch. I didn't do either to the hay and manure. My dog dug it up, but the bottom layer (moes tek) stayed intact so it should be ok. Outdoor has less a risk of contams, and is pretty much care free. Just basic watering and checking on it. And ringing in the harvest which i have yet to do.

Seriously, just boil a big ass pot of water and put straw and poo in the plastic bin, mix it all up...dig a hole...carry water in pot and pour it into the bin and close it, leave it for a hr, drain, let cool and mix it with ur cakes and put it in the hole.IMO that could be the easiest way to get it done.

I mean the whole contam thing, I'd expect more chance of contams OUTSIDE then INSIDE. That's what confuses me. But thanks. -Mr.Sleep

there is not gona be more contams outside. as stated in the shroomery some where, green mold is basically an indoor problem. it says to throw a piece of bread outside and ull see what they mean. it wont mold, green anyways. look u dont have to pastruize nothing if u dont want to expecally outside patches. well i only know u dont have to pasturize manure and of coures that is store bought kind im refering to. there shouldnt be a problem with that id be more conserned about how ur gona get water to them babys where no one is gona either pay attention or u dont get the water right? that dosent shound like its gona be a good idea, u kinda want them in a enviorment where u can see whats happening with them as it happen ur problem is gona be watering them.

AFOAF has an outdoor bed right at the end of his deck. He just waters it when he waters his other plants.

It is a work in progress as we read. The results have yet to manifest themselves. There is a shade tree and the patch should do fairly well there. My FOAF just followed moe's tek. To an untrained eye it looks like nothing.

outside you should only water once a day depending how dry your climate is. I live in the south east where cubes grow naturally so I only water onc a day. Just enough to simulate a short rain burst. I don't think soaking them would be beneficial.
If anyone has some suggestions about my procedures I'd appreciate any advice.
