Tiny Blue Specks On Almost Fully Colonized Cake. ( Bruising Perhaps ? )
    #15649666 - 01/11/12 11:14 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I gave my 99 percent colonized cake a thwack the other night to loosen it from the jar so I could flip it upside down to see how much it had shrunk , quite a bit I must add. But then this morning when I checked on him , he had little dark blue spots , not fuzzy like mold , just dark blue spots in a sea of otherwise healthy bright white myc. Does this sound like bruising or do I need to birth and do some sort of surgery?
I'm already sad since I got what I believe to be a contam spore solution that killed off 4 of my 9 jars I had going , oh well. Its just pushing me closer to going out and buying a pressure cooker and my own supplies so I don't have to pay 2.00 a jar. Which I know is ridiculous but I wanted to observe and see if I was diggin this hobby before I bought a pressure cooker , but I am now so I guess I'll have to get one because its so easy to make your own jars anyways.
But someone let me know what they think , I cannot take a picture , only camera I have access too is my mobile phone and it probably wouldn't give you any better idea than your imagination will.
This showed up on otherwise healthy mycelium , it appeared overnight. It does not look like anything but a discoloration , no fuzz or raisng or any of that scary horse shit.
I DID USE THE SEARCH BUTTON.
But I feel like in a situation like this , most everyone's experience is diffent. I can TRY to take a picture on my phone if someone thinks it is necessary.

Bruising I bet. Either way you'll know in a few days or even sooner. Just watch it and see if it grows.

Yessuh.
Bout to give the BRF bags from Out-Grow a try , anyone heard good things? They are cheaper than jars , basically the same thing , I plan to do them like a cake , maybe bust them up at 25 percent for stronger sexier myc and dunk and roll though Out-Grow says that isn't necessary to that until second flush.
But I hope it is just bruising , I've never fucked around with penis envy and those are my PE cakes. Saturday they'll have been incubating three weeks , and I beleive I'm going to birth the one with the blue tomorrow or Friday , it has to be colonized on the inside as small as the cake has gotten.
Got another question , verm isn't available in my town , is it possible for the cake to sit one day without verm layer after dunk or should I just leave the babies in the jars until I get it. I'm just worried about that one cake getting the FAE it needs now that is pretty much colonized , I guess that proves I don't really know what the fuck Im doing even though I've read alot of shit , haha. Guess its true what you all say , you can read all you want but you don't really understand shit til you do it.
Actually got ahold of a camera.

&

That little ' black ' dot on the top of the middle part of the cake.
The dots look black in the pictures , but are most certainly a royal blue.

I personally dont like doing brf in bags. I only tried it once but it just did not perform as well at all. Might be different with the way out grow does it though.

I would go ahead and birth them, a few days should be fine. Just be careful not disturb them to much when you do get the verm, it might slow them down a little if you do.

i noticed a couple on mine after reading this, i have bounced them around in the jar a few times (turning them upside down and upright) so its probably just bruising

I've read good things about the BRF Bags from Outgrow , they seem almost foolproof , but I'm going to be using jars as well so they are just an experiment , I hope all goes well with them and the next jars I knock up.
I've got some syringes from Captain Max I'm going to use for these.
But I'll probably birth that cake tomorrow.

I was looking around and found some good looking pics of those brf bags, they look pretty cool.

I should try them again, maybe my home made brf bag cakes were to wet.

Twas bruising went away after a dunk.
After the dunk its like my myc stretched quite a bit over the cake if you know what I mean , it looks like it absorbed quite a bit of water into the substrate / cell walls and isn't as bright white was it was.
But hopefully that'll come back , Verm is here tomorrow I'll do a roll.
I got it in my FC , its keep humidity well , doesn't has as many holes as a traditional shotgun , but its working well and I'm planning to fan 3 to 4 times a day , I have the closet door closed on both sides and just cracked with a fan pointed at the wall to get air circulating in there and in and around the holes in my FC , my humidity is staying around 96-98 percent. So I think all will be okay.
Look for my proper grow log with Out-Grows BRF bags and some WBS Flour Jars and 10 Gram jars I just wanted to try out since I'm still waiting on a big enough PC to do enough jars for it to be worth my time. I'll be growing Penis Envy , Amazonians , B+ , And maybe some Ecuadors if I feel like it. :P Keep any eye out for it. Thanks again everyone , if you have any suggestions about my FC / growing area please dont hesitate to post them or shoot me a PM
