I ordered some stuff off the net a while back and have yet to recieve it (two weeks later) It was sent priority mail and should have made it in 7-10 days. It got me thinking about what exactly it is that makes some packages take so long to arrive. If there are any postal workers in here maybe they could help me out. Does stuff just get forgotten in a wharehouse somewhere or does it get routed through a bunch of different sub-stations before it gets into town? Have any of you actually had somthing get lost by the postel service?

Read, Post Office by Charles Bukowski for a shocking expose into the world of the USPS. In this novel, Bukowski did to mail delivery, what Upton Sinclair did to the meat packing industry in The Jungle!

Hey Papaver,
Can you list some notes that were in the book?
Possibly notes from "The Jungle" also.

Hehehe... There's a thought. Start my own line of study notes and college essays, with my own personal brand of bizarre thinking behind them. No one would ever accuse you of cheating, and you just might get an "A," along with a healthy supply of thorazine...

I can't tell you why your package is late, but my old climbing partner and band mate used to work for the post office, many, many, years ago. He pretty much got the job the same way Bukowski did, he signed up when they were hiring extra temporary help for Christmas, and then he stayed on for more years then he had planned. He pretty much told the same stories, about sorting mail, mean supervisors, and walking routes with evil dogs and loose housewives...

Depens on when they actually sent it. If you haven't recieved it 7 days after it was sent out, then it's probably lost.
Priority rarely takes more than 4 days, usually 2-3.

Wow, that makes me worried. Anybody know if they're resposible for it if it's lost? Luckily there isn't anyting of a sensitive nature in the package.

Where did you get the tracking # from? Did you have to call the company that sent iit to you? I didn't know the postal service had tracking #s that people could use to check the status of their order.

Nope, they should give you a tracking # every time you purchase something on the net

USPS doesn't have tracking, only delivery confirmation.

Well I went into the local post office today and they told me that they never got it. I'm supposed to call the company that sent it and have them track it through their local branch. This is such a pain in the ass. At least I scored some tyvek while I was there

I just started working for UPS, and insuring all of your packages is a real good idea. I have only been there for about a month now but have already seen tons of laptops and home stereos just "disappear" when guys are loading/unloading trucks. And as for the dogs, I haven't seen one yet, I asked my supervisor if they ever have dogs walk around and all he did was laugh.
